ubuntu What's the difference between the server version and the desktop version?

ubuntu : What's the difference between the server version and the desktop version?
http://askubuntu.com/questions/31081/whats-the-difference-between-the-server-version-and-the-desktop-version

Copied as-is from Ubuntu docs:
    • The first difference is in the CD contents. The "Server" CD avoids including what Ubuntu considers desktop packages (packages like X, Gnome or KDE), but does include server related packages (Apache2, Bind9 and so on). Using a Desktop CD with a minimal installation and installing, for example, apache2 from the network, one can obtain the exact same result that can be obtained by inserting the Server CD and installing apache2 from the CD-ROM.
    • The Ubuntu Server Edition installation process is slightly different from the Desktop Edition. Since by default Ubuntu Server doesn't have a GUI, the process is menu driven, very similar to the Alternate CD installation process.
    • Before 12.04, Ubuntu server installs a server-optimized kernel by default. Since 12.04, there is no difference in kernel between Ubuntu Desktop and Ubuntu Server since linux-image-server is merged into linux-image-generic.
    • For Ubuntu LTS releases before 12.04, the Ubuntu Desktop Edition only receives 3 years of support. This was increased to 5 years in Ubuntu LTS 12.04 In contrast, all Ubuntu LTS Server Edition releases are supported for 5 years.
    ---

Can I add a "graphical user interface" (GUI) to a server?

Whilst we don't recommend running a GUI on a server for security and performance reasons, yes you can. Depending on what window manager you wish to use you can install the X Server and the window manager via apt-get. For details see the ServerGUI page.

Windows a prueba de fallos y Error File:\Boot\BCD Status: 0xC0000034 or 0xC0000098 ; bcdedit bootrec

    Windows a prueba de fallos:
    ------
    XP, Vista y 7 - pulsar F8 (F5 si F8 no funciona), referencia.

    Windows Error File:\Boot\BCD Status: 0xc0000034
    ------
Error message when you start Windows :
    File: \Boot\BCD
    Status:  0xC0000034 or 0xC0000098
Info: The Windows Boot Configuration Data file is missing required information

    Referencias:
    • F9 mientras arranca, referencia.
    • kb2004518 support.microsoft  Windows 7: "The Windows Boot Configuration Data file is missing required information" .
    • Dell support, Error message when you start Windows : "The Windows Boot Configuration Data file is missing required information" (Error code 0xc0000034).
Yo no me fío.
I tried to fix with "Repair your computer" with Windows install CD and, after 2 hours of working, the only change was that 0xC0000098 changed to 0xC0000034. I fixed it again and I got 0xC0000098 again.

1 -- Easy way. *CAUTION* no backup done !!
    bootrec /RebuildBCD
    exit
    reboot !!

2 -- Step by step guide, with backup !!

-- find windows directory f.e -to- W:\windows and export just in case
    bootrec /ScanOs
    bcdedit /export w:\bcd_20160927_1621.exp

-- find hidden boot partition c:
    attrib a:\boot\bcd
    attrib b:\boot\bcd
    attrib c:\boot\bcd
    ..
     -- backup bcd file
    c:
    cd \boot
    attrib bcd -s -h -r
    ren bcd bcd_20160927_1621.old
    dir bcd_*.old
    del bcd_*.old

      -- rebuild from scrath
    bootrec /FixMBR
    bootrec /fixboot
    bootrec /ScanOs
    bootrec /RebuildBCD

    exit

    diskpart
    list disk
    select disk 0
    list partition
    select partition 1
    detail partition
    exit

    Ver recopilación antigua  aquí.
